Gentlemen’s Breakfast Club Road Trip

Myself and some of the the guys who attended Mitton Halls Super car sunday we could not of asked for better weather.

Despite arriving before 09:00 for a 09:30 start, we were greeted with an already overflowing car park – Clive managed to sneak in and found a space on the Mitton Hall driveway. Others parked on the roadside outside.

Big Ronnie, sandwiched between a Porsche and a Ferrari.

What a fabulous meeting, more Porsches and Ferraris then you could shake a stick at – with a handful of Lamborghinis, it truly was a Supercar meet. Porsche fans had loads of 911s to drool over including GT3, GT4 and GTSs and even a 918 Sypder which was on sale for a cool £1,250,000. Clive and I witnessed an old gent mistakenly telling his friends “That’s a nice car for £125,000” – Clive kindly corrected him!

The Ferrari stable was pretty busy too, however it was a Ferrari 250 that stole the show for me.

There was some debate as to whether it was an original or not, either way, it was the prettiest Supercar there. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet its owner so never found out about its history.

Other notable exotics included a Noble M600, Jaguar Project 7 and an Ultima GTR. The latter showed off an exhaust system that not only sounded awesome but looked like a work of art too. Air conditioning had been sacrificed in the name of performance, forcing the passenger of this orange beast to hold his gullwing door aloft as they left the meeting!

Back to the Future fans enjoyed a DeLorean complete with hover board, comic books and banks of flashing lights- the only thing missing was Doc Emmett himself !

A mid-seventies Granada coupe complete with vinyl roof made a late but very welcome appearance.

Those of us into motorbikes appreciated a handful of classics including a beautiful Kawasaki KH250 triple, a very early Norton and a number of Harleys.

Closely behind the Ferrari 250, as my second favorite car at the meet was a fantastically restored MkIII Ford Capri. This beautiful car finished in red had a full body x-pack, period correct alloys and S model side stripes, however its best surprise was under the bonnet – a Granada Scorpio 2.9 V6 engine that looked very much at home. Andy discovered that he knew the owner, Clive and I finished wandering around the show without him !

As the meet drew to a close, a small but enthusiastic crowd gathered around the exit. We weren’t disappointed as we watched quite a number of noisy but fortunately drama free exists from the show !

A big thank you to Andy Cox this month for writing the update…😊

I am pleased to say  that on Easter Sunday we had blue skies and myself and another GBC member Andy Wild headed down to Shackletons Garden Centre in Clitheroe for the Classic & Supercar Sunday Event.

A quick slideshow below of a few of my favourite cars.

As well as seeing all the great cars and giving one of my cars a run it was a great place to promote the GBC for new members. With a lot of like minded people there. I distributed about 100 flyers and once they ran out took email addresses manually.

I am not marketing our Gentlemen’s Breakfast Club as an event on social media to keep the boy racers and their hot hatchbacks out.

If you are going to an event and want to distribute some of our Gentlemen’s Breakfast Club flyers to like minded enthusiasts please let me know.

2nd Gentlemen’s Breakfast Club

Our 2nd Gentlemans Breakfast Club was held on Saturday 17/02/2018.

Two of the most interesting cars in attendance were from the same sort of era both with retro colours.

I have now decided to do a feature on the “Car of the Day” in each months GBCM update on WordPress. From next month this will be chosen by the first person to arrive on the day, if this is the same person on multiple occasions it will go to the next person to make the choice.

This month I chose the Clan Crusader, when new they sold at £1,400.00 or £1,123.00 in kit form.

It has a Fibreglass monocoque shell, this rear engined classic sports car has an all alloy construction with SOHC.
It can trace its family tree back to the mid sixties World Championship Car Constructor(Lotus) and a fork lift truck company(Coventry Climax).
It is of course the Clan Crusader with a profile that only its mother could love!
Conceived and then built by a breakaway group of ex Lotus employees in a unit in Washington Tyne and Wear. About 350 were made before VAT killed it off.
It made a fantastic debut in the Motoring News stage rally in the IOM finishing second to Roger Clark in his Escort RS1600. Further impressive results followed in all forms of motorsport UNTIL – it was found that production figures had been ‘fudged’ and so homologation requirements had not been met.

FTY was built in 1972 and formerly owned by the Clan Club Registrar from early eighties to late nineties it has a 998cc engine, R21 cam, lightened/balanced flywheel and running twin forty webers – not ideal for nipping down to the shops!
Mechanically very good it could really do with a body tidy up – but then again, couldn’t we all!
Breakfast

Well a breakfast meet would not be a breakfast meet without breakfast. The GBCM rule is the last person to arrive before 11.00am is the person who rings the order through and drives the 1/4 of a mile to collect Breakfast for whoever wants it. Yates’s is our local     Deli /  Bakery. Is it any good I here you ask? Well around lunchtime the queue is out the door so there’s your answer. Whats available? Homemade pies of most descriptions, sausage rolls, cornish pasties, Sausage, Bacon and fried eggs in soft rolls in any combination or all. There is also cheese, ham, beef, turkey, tuna and chicken with salad if you require it. Im into health and fitness so I go with a seeded brown roll, chicken, salad, mayo and not butter. My roll was £3.00 I believe nothing is much dearer than that.

Image below shows my breakfast / lunch roll.

unnamed2Thank you to Jason K. for doing the butty run on Saturday.

The 3rd Gentlemans Breakfast Club will be held on Sunday 11/03/2018 as we had a few no shows due to Members working we are swapping the week end day also on Sunday we will be extending the meet length to 10.00am – 2.00pm
